Well known for whitewater rafting on the Ocoee River, the Ocoee Region of southern Tennessee and northern Georgia offers a wide variety of outdoor adventures. Mountain biking the trails near the Ocoee Whitewater Center of the Cherokee National Forest has become increasing popular. Hiking and backpacking the Cohutta Wilderness in the Chattahoochee National Forest offers the nature lover outdoor recreation and solitude all year round, while Starr Mountain cliffs invite rock climbing and rappelling.

To get a bird's eye view take a ride on a glider plane, an ultra light aircraft or maybe you'd like to hang glide. Up for a challenge? Try your hand with the OAR Tennessee Ropes Course for year-round activities on a beautiful 20-acre outpost on the banks of the Ocoee River.

If your outdoor adventure tends toward the more tame, try the Hiwassee River in northern Polk County, TN. It's the perfect backdrop for white water rafting in Tennessee and easily accommodates canoes, kayaks and funyaks. The Hiwassee along with Jacks River and the Conasauga River offer the fly fisherman an excellent opportunity for trout fishing.

The road up Chilhowee Mountain was the first National Scenic Byway designated by the US Forest Service. Other beautiful drives include Highway 30 through Reliance, TN and Hwy. 68 to Tellico Plains. Conveniently located, the Ocoee Region is bounded on the west by I-75 at Cleveland, TN. It is within a three-hour drive of six metropolitan areas: Atlanta, Nashville, Chattanooga, Knoxville and Birmingham and Huntsville in Alabama. If you're visiting Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge are but a short drive down Highway 411. Wherever you're coming from, take a few minutes to familiarize yourself with our area, visit the Ocoee Region Map.
